Addis Ababa, 12th February 2019 – During the 34th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, the Office of the Legal Counsel, led by Amb. Namira Negm (Dr), has successfully overseen the election and nomination processes for membership into various Organs and institutions of the Union.
At the end of the voting, the Executive Council has elected Member States and individual candidates who obtained the required majority votes as follows:
1. For membership of the AU Peace and Security Council - Burundi (Central), Algeria (Northern), Lesotho (Southern), Nigeria (West) and Kenya (East) for a term of three years.
2. Mrs Tomassa Bisia ELA NCHAM (Equatorial Guinea) and Mrs Kembo Takam GatsinG Hermine (Cameroon) as female members of the African Commission on International Law (AUCIL) and African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACEWRC) respectively, for a term of Five years.
3. Six (6) Members of the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption (two (2) female and four (4) male) were also appointed for a term of two (2) years. The Members elect are Mr Begoto Miarom, Chad (Central Region); Mr Andramfidy Jean Louis, Madagascar (Eastern Region); Mrs. Ng’andu Agness Kayobo and Mr Seema Sefako Aaron, Lesotho and Zambia respectively (Southern Region); and Mrs GNANSOUNOU FOURN Elisabeth Afiavi and Mr BAMOUNI Pascal, Benin and Burkina Faso respectively (Western Region).
4. The Council also nominated Morocco, Mozambique and Namibia to each designate One (1) judge to the African Union Administrative Tribunal for a term of Four (4) Years.
The election process was conducted in accordance with the constitutive instruments of each Organs/Institutions and in the manner that reflected and respected principles of equitable geographical representation and gender parity.

Having taken note of the election, the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government, during its 32nd Ordinary Session held from 10 to 11 February 2019, appointed the above mentioned elected Member States and individual candidates into their respective Organs and Institutions.
