Sunday, 12- March 2018: The Meeting of Legal Experts of the Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Justice and Legal Affairs kicked off Sunday, 11 March 2018 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The week-long session will deliberate on the Agreement Establishing the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), specially focusing on AfCFTA objectives, the Institutional Framework, Implementation and the inter-relationship of the Free Trade Zone with existing regional and international arrangements.

Kigali, Rwanda, 21 March 2018: Close to Fifty (50) African Union Member States have signed the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the Kigali Declaration and the Free Movement Protocol by order of interest, during the official opening ceremony of the 10th Extraordinary Summit of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government held on 21 March 2018, in Kigali, Republic of Rwanda. A majority of the African countries signed all the three legal instruments while some signed two and the others signed one of the three instruments.

This has been a memorable day for the people of Africa. Allow me once again to commend everyone involved in bringing us to this stage.

The private sector is a pillar of a strong and prosperous Africa. I thank business leaders for their active participation in this Summit. This is a very welcome development, which should continue as a lasting partnership.

Kigali, Rwanda, 20 March 2018: Prof. Sarah Anyang Agbor, Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology of the African Union, on 19 March 2018, delivered a key note address at the Gender Summit holding with the framework of the Tenth Extraordinary Summit of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA in Kigali, Republic of Rwanda).

The two day event which took place in the Marriott Hotel, Kigali brought together participants and delegates from the AU Member states to exchange views on the theme: “Climate Change through the Gender Lens: Focus on Africa”.
