WHAT: Panel Discussion on Protection of Civilians

WHEN: 18th August 2017

WHERE: African Union Commission, New Conference Centre, Conf. Room-2

Time : 8:30 A.M 1:00 P.M

Goal:

The goal of the Panel Discussion is to mobilise stakeholders (Member States, civil society, etc.) to enhance respect for IHL and IHRL in furtherance of protection of civilians in situations of conflict.

Objectives:

1. Increase awareness and advocate for increased attention to the grave protection crises in conflict situations in Africa
2. Respect for international humanitarian law (IHL) and international human rights law (IHRL), and promotion of good practice by parties to conflict; and
3. Propose recommendations to strengthen AU PoC strategy and support implementation of recommendations.
