AU Commission Deputy Chairperson lauds the Afro-Arab Cooperation.

8th February 2018, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission Amb. Kwesi Quartey led an inspection tour of the Commission’s Medical and Health Services Directorate, to get an overview of the latest upgrade of the healthcare delivery system. The Deputy Chairperson, accompanied by Staff, the Permanent Representatives Committee of the African Union and the Diplomatic corps, was briefed on the latest acquisitions and technologies in the different units and sections of the AU Medical and Health Services Directorate, as part of a Special Project funded by the State of Kuwait.
The Deputy Chairperson acknowledged the cooperation with the State of Kuwait, which he noted has made impactful contributions to the African Union under the special Project’s fund, to enhance the African Union Medical Services Delivery System. He added that in seeking to realize the goals and targets of Agenda 2063, the Afro-Arab cooperation and bilateral cooperation between Kuwait and African Member states, continues to offer the much needed cooperation in various areas such as Scientific Research, Food Security, Trade and Investment and Infrastructure Development. “We have, and continue, to accumulate a portfolio of investments and infrastructure development through the Kuwait fund, and more broadly with the Arab community and we value them as a true friend”, he stated.
Kuwaiti Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Rashed Al Hajri, while handing over a modern ambulance to the Commission, delivered a message from His Highness the Amir of the state of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jabar Al Sabah, stating that Kuwait places great importance on the development agenda of the African continent and would continue to support socio-economic activities and initiatives, bilaterally at the national level, and also continental projects such as the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), aimed at building resilience and coordination in the continent to manage and prevent the spread of diseases.
The Director of Medical and Health Services, Dr. Yankuba Kassama briefed on the management strategies the Commission is undertaking to improve the provision of health services to the African Union staff, Embassies of African Union Member States and the diplomatic corps based in Ethiopia. He stated, “to us, every life counts and we are committed to work with our Member States and partners to provide quality healthcare to all”. Dr. Kassama who led a tour of the ENT, Physiotherapy and Dental Suite units, stated that the latest acquisitions will substantially add to the functionality of the African Union health system and contribute significantly, to the attainment of aspirations of Agenda 2063.
