Background;

The AUCIL Forums have been organized annually, since December 2012 for a wider discussion of issues pertinent to Africa in the application and development of international and African Union law. It is a platform for discussion and interaction on issues of global interest for Africa, viewed through the prism of international law and African Union law, with a view to raising awareness of the need to accelerate regional integration by guiding African decision-makers on the legal implications of regional integration.

Objectives:

The objectives of the 9th AUCIL Forum are to identify and explore areas of contribution by AU Member States in developing new guiding principles on Business and Human Rights in Africa, examine the practice of AU Member States in interactions with each other and other States, analyze the legislative framework for demanding corporate accountability, identify challenges in terms of corporate-related violations and accountability, and analyze ways to develop international law to respond to these issues.

Participants:

Legal Advisers of Ministries of Foreign Affairs of AU Member States; Lawyers with specialization in International Law, Human Rights, and Business Law; Judges;
 Member States representatives; Educational and Research Institutions (Academic Scholars, Law Faculties from AU Member States, African Researchers of the continent and the Diaspora, Research Centres on International Law in Africa and elsewhere); International, Regional Organizations and Non-governmental Organizations, among others.

Expected outcomes:

A publication of the documents retained as contributions to the Forum in order to provide the public, both from Africa and elsewhere, with tools for analysing and understanding issues related to the Forum theme.
