Inaugural training and network-building programme

INVITATION TO THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA

What: Inaugural training and network-building session of the “African Women for Transitional Justice (AW4TJ) platform

When: 2-4 August 2023

Where: Tamarind hotel, Nairobi, Kenya

Who:    The Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS) of the AU Commission (AUC), with the support of the Consortium (CSVR - Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation, ICTJ - Inernational Center for Transitional justice & ATJLF - The Africa Transitional Justice Legacy Fund ) and GIZ.

Why:   The overarching objective of the training is to promote women's participation in transitional justice in Africa, with the aim of increasing the number of women transitional justice experts across the continent.

Expected Outcome:

• Increasing number of women across the continent with an understanding of the AUTJP;

• Establishment the African Women for Transitional Justice (AW4TJ) as a Continental Platform; 

• Increased women transitional justice experts and practitioners, and expand the space for African women to lead and drive their own in-country processes;

• Development of a database of trained African Women for implementation of transitional justice processes by African member states at national level;

Participants/Stakeholders:

The programme will bring together 30 to 35 women carefully selected, with a special consideration will be given to women that are currently affiliated with transitional justice programmes in the AU Member States. The Women, Gender and Youth Directorate of the AUC as well as the office of FEMWISE and the AU Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security are relevant stakeholders of this project.
