The Peace and Security Department (PSD) supports the Peace and Security Council (PSC) in the exercise of its responsibilities under the PSC Protocol. He leads the main activities of the AU Commission related to peace, security, conflict resolution and the promotion of stability on the
The main objectives of the Department are as follows:
- implement the African Common Defence and Security Policy (CADSP) ;
- implement the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) ;
- support conflict prevention, management and resolution efforts ;
- promoting structural conflict prevention programmes, including through the African Union Border Management Programme (AUBP) ;
- implement the AU policy framework on post-conflict reconstruction and development (PCRD)
- coordinate, harmonize and promote peace and security programmes in Africa, working with Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional Mechanisms (RMs) for conflict prevention, management and resolution and international partners.
Department also supervises the African Centre for Studies and Research on Terrorism.
