The Chairperson of AUC, Moussa Faki Mahamat, is very concerned about the continuous tension in Eastern DRC and reiterates his call for rapid de-escalation.

He calls upon regional leaders, particularly those of DRC and Rwanda, to prioritize dialogue in the framework of the two African mechanisms led by President João Lourenço of Angola and Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, with the goal of agreeing, in a collaborative and fraternal spirit, on a reasonable pathway to settle political differences, whatever their nature.

Addis Ababa, 25 April 2022: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat  welcomes the outcome of the Second Heads of State Conclave on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), held on 21 April 2022, in Nairobi, Kenya, particularly the decision to immediately deploy a regional force to restore peace and stability in the DRC.

The Chairperson commends H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Eastern Africa Leaders for their common efforts towards finding a sustainable solution to the situation in eastern DRC and the Great Lakes region as whole.

Training of trainers on infection prevention and control for COVID-19 concludes in DRC

A three-day training of trainers on infection prevention and control (IPC) for COVID-19 was concluded in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) yesterday, 1 September 2020. The training was organized by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in partnership with the Directorate of General Disease Control of the Ministry of Public Health and the national port health programme of the DRC. Thirty healthcare workers from Kongo Central and Kinshasa provinces participated in the training.

African Union begins deploying health workers to fight Ebola in the DRC

Kinshasa, DRC 25 August 2018- The African Union has begun sending qualified African health workers into the regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo, that are affected by the latest Ebola outbreak to hit the continent.

These are seasoned veterans as some of them were also involved in the 8th epidemic from 2014 to 2016, and the ninth, which occurred earlier this year.

20 health workers left Kinshasa yesterday, and travelled to Beni in North Kivu province in the east of the DRC. A further 15 will follow in the next few days.

African Union conducts pre deployment training workshop for health workers destined to fight Ebola in North Kivu and Ituri provinces in DRC

Kinshasa, DRC 30 August 2018- The African Union, through the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (AfricaCDC) has conducted a pre deployment orientation and preparation training workshop for health care workers to be deployed to North Kivu and Ituri in the Democratic Republic of Congo, to help international efforts to fight the current outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease.
