Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 09 December 2016: Newly appointed Ambassadors of the Republics of Liberia and Senegal to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representatives to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), have presented their Credentials to the African Union Commission Chairperson, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, on 8 December 2016.
H.E. George S.W. Patten, Sr., is Liberia’s new Ambassador of Liberia to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU and UNECA, while H.E. Mr. Baye Moctar Diop is Senegal’s new Ambassador of Liberia to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU and UNECA.
Liberia
Presenting his Credentials, the newly appointed Ambassador of Liberia to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, H.E. George S.W. Patten, Sr., also delivered greetings from President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. She appreciated the Chairperson for her work for Africa, particularly in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease.
The Ambassador reminded the Chairperson to prolong presence of the AU Liaison in Liberia, as particularly as the country prepares for elections in 2017. They also discussed the recognition of role of Liberia in the work of the Union, which the Chairperson committed to work with Liberia to improve. She also committed to extending AU Liaison Office in the Liberia before, during and after elections.
Senegal
Presenting his Credentials later on the same day, H.E. Mr. Baye Moctar Diop, Senegal’s new Ambassador of Liberia to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU and UNECA, expressed readiness to work in close collaboration with all the members of the PRC to strengthen the work of the AU. He committed to work fully with the AU Commission.
The Chairperson of the AU Commission said both are Liberia and Senegal active members of the AU, and hope they will continue.
She also wished the two new Permanent Representatives a successful tour of duty.
