The Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI) coordinates the AU programmes on human resource development, education, science, technology and promoting the youth development agenda.

Implementing the Agenda 2063 initiatives for African Virtual and E-University and the Africa Outer Space Strategy

Implementation of continental educational polices and strategies such as the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA); the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA), and TVET Continental Strategy; AU School Feeding initiative
HRST coordinates the activities of the following technical offices: Scientific, Technical and Research Commission (STRC); African Observatory of Science, Technology and Innovation (AOSTI); Pan African University (PAU); International Centre for Girls’ and Women’s Education in Africa (CIEFFA); and the Pan African Institute for Education for Development (IPED)/African Observatory for Education
The promotes the work of the AU in the area of education and STI development. The department also coordinates AU’s education and scientific scholarships and awards including Nyerere Scholarship and Academic Mobility Programme, Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Awards, as well as overseeing the work of specialist AU institutions including the AU- International Centre for Girls and Women’s Education in Africa (AU/CIEFFA), The Pan-African University (PAU) and the Pan-African Institute for Education for Development (IPED)
